Peyz's 6 Pentakills Don't Hide T1's Weaknesses

But the 'match result' column next to it doesn't reflect a superstar leading his team to championships. Instead, it shows a T1 struggling to win even when Peyz delivers outstanding individual performances. The recent match against BFX is a clear example. Game 5, Peyz gets a pentakill, T1 wins. But the story isn't just that beautiful play. T1 let BFX – a mid-tier team – push them to a deciding game. If the opponent were HLE or Gen.G, would T1 still have a chance for Peyz to shine? I doubt it. This season's meta favors ADC as the primary late-game damage source. Teams funnel resources into bot lane, and T1 is no exception. They put top laner Doran on low-resource champions, funneling gold to Peyz. This is a logical strategy on paper: if your ADC is one of the best young talents, let him carry. But the problem is: when Peyz gets shut down, T1 has no Plan B. Look at the data. According to my stats from LCK matches this season, when Peyz is neutralized in teamfights (causing the team to lose), T1's win rate drops below 30%. Compared to Gen.G, where Chovy can switch to carry, or HLE with Zeka and Viper, T1 relies too heavily on a single arrow. Faker has had moments of brilliance, like his Yone in recent Game 5, but that's an exception, not the rule. At age 30, Faker is no longer a per-game carry. He's a facilitator, a space-maker, but the primary damage output must come from Peyz. The blind spot in this story is comparing pentakills across roles. An ADC has a much higher chance of getting a pentakill than a mid laner, because they have sustained damage and cleanup potential. Comparing Peyz (6 pentakills) to Faker (2 pentakills in 13 years) is comparing apples to oranges. It doesn't show Peyz is better than Faker, only that their roles differ. But because T1 bets everything on Peyz, each of his pentakills only highlights the team's lack of strategic diversity. Moreover, Doran – the top laner – is making too many mistakes. In recent matches, he often gets caught out of position, losing advantages Peyz creates. When you play weakside (low resources), each mistake is more severe because you don't have gold to compensate. If Doran can't stabilize, T1 will always be on the back foot against strong teams. T1 seems caught between two identities: the old T1 (centered on Faker, multiple win conditions) and the new T1 (centered on Peyz, a single win condition). They can't completely change because without funneling Peyz, the team's damage collapses. But if they continue, they will fail against teams that can lock down the ADC – like HLE, Gen.G, or even DK with Smash. Looking at the transfer market, I see a similar lesson from football. When Son Heung-min shined at the 2026 World Cup, Tottenham built their play around him. But when Son was blocked, the team had no Plan B. T1 is repeating that mistake.
